Geogrids

Geogrids provide a geotechnical solution to an economic problem. In soil with low bearing capacity, the conventional approach is to add more aggregate — with the associated costs of purchase, transport and compaction. Geogrids work differently. The aggregates are mechanically anchored within the openings of the grid and cannot move laterally under load. The layer behaves as a single slab rather than a collection of unbound grains, and loads are distributed over a larger area. The result is a reduced base course thickness for the same bearing capacity — or a longer service life for the same thickness.
