PP GEOMEMBRANES | Polypropylene membranes for reservoirs
GeomembranesDescription
Three thicknesses — 500, 750 and 1000 μm — with an elongation at break of over 800 per cent, enabling it to follow any settlement of the subgrade without tearing. A specially formulated polypropylene geomembrane for greater elasticity and strength, designed for the construction of outdoor water reservoirs.
Tensile strength ranges from 25 to 29 N/mm² in the machine direction (MD), puncture resistance exceeds 100 N, and resistance to cracking due to environmental conditions exceeds 1,000 hours at 70°C. The weight ranges from 450 to 900 g/m², with a yield of 2.2 to 1.1 m² per kilogram.
The ARGYNET View
In an agricultural reservoir, the critical factor is not strength — it is elongation. The ground settles unevenly, and the membrane must stretch, not break.
Polypropylene offers an elongation of over 800 per cent, compared with approximately 700 per cent for HDPE. This is why it is preferred for tanks on natural ground without a prepared foundation, where settlement is to be expected.
The second factor to consider: resistance to sunlight increases with thickness — 6 years at 500 μm, up to 10 years at 1000 μm. In a permanent, uncovered installation, thickness is not a matter of strength but of service life.
