ESHADESMOLAST HRD | Liquid-applied polyurethane coating for car parks, road surfaces, etc.

EshaDesmolast HRD is a single-component, aliphatic, solvent-based polyurethane coating for horizontal surfaces subject to high mechanical stress. It is used as a top coat over ESHADESMOLAST, offering long-term protection against ultraviolet radiation and abrasion.

Its hardness reaches Shore D 30 — a scale for harder materials than Shore A — with a tensile strength of 4.64 N/mm² and an elongation of 150 per cent. It is this combination of hardness and elasticity that enables the surface to withstand foot and vehicle traffic without cracking. After 2,000 hours of artificial ageing (ASTM G 53), it retains its mechanical properties and elastic behaviour.

‘HRD’ does not mean a harder sealant — it stands for ‘top coat’. The waterproofing layer remains the ESHADESMOLAST underneath, with its 700 per cent elongation that bridges cracks. The HRD is applied on top and takes the brunt of the abrasion, tyres, weight and sun.

If you omit it on a flat roof, the project will not fail due to waterproofing issues. It will suffer mechanical wear and tear — and the entire system will be stripped away long before the membrane underneath reaches the end of its service life. This is one of the few cases where the top layer is not an aesthetic choice but a prerequisite for durability.
