ESHAPOLYSEAL 1K | Elastomeric polyurethane joint sealant
Joint sealing and waterstopsDescription
ESHAPOLYSEAL 1K is a single-component polyurethane sealant, thixotropic in nature, for cold-applied sealing of secondary horizontal and vertical joints in concrete structural elements. Upon contact with atmospheric moisture, it polymerises and forms an elastic, compact mass with an elastic recovery of ≥70% in accordance with EN ISO 7389 and an elongation at break of 565% at +23°C. The Shore A hardness is 30 ± 3 and the modulus of elastic deformation remains essentially constant from –20°C to +23°C (0.21 and 0.22 MPa respectively) — meaning that the material does not harden in winter, precisely when the joint opens up the most. It bears dual CE marking: in accordance with EN 14188-2 as type S-ns-D and in accordance with EN 15651-1 as type Φ-EXT-INT-CC-25LM, i.e. low modulus with a movement capacity of ±25 per cent.
The ARGYNET View:
The crucial factor is not the sealant — it is the joint geometry. The sealing depth must be at least 70 per cent of the width and no less than 7 mm; beyond this, the material cannot accommodate deformation and tears. And the expanded polyethylene cord is not optional: if the sealant adheres to the bottom of the joint as well, it becomes bonded on three sides instead of two and fails during the first cycle of contraction.
Overview
Key Features
Elastic behaviour
- Elastic recovery ≥70% (EN ISO 7389)
- Elongation at break 565% at +23°C
- Shore A hardness 30 ± 3 — low modulus (LM)
- Modulus of elastic deformation 0.21 MPa at -20°C / 0.22 MPa at +23°C
- Movement capacity ±25% in accordance with EN 15651-1
Application
- Single-component — ready to use, no weighing or mixing required
- Thixotropic: application to vertical joints with zero flow (0 mm at 50°C)
- Flow rate ≥70 ml/min (EN 28394)
- Skin formation ≤4 h at 25°C / 50% RH
- Cures in 1–2 hours, final properties achieved in 24 hours
Resistance & compatibility
- Does not corrode or oxidise metal surfaces on contact
- Good adhesion to concrete, glass, wood and metal
- Resistance to dilute solutions of 5% HCl and 5% NaOH (≤-25% change in mass)
- Resistance to hydrolysis: change in Shore A ≤ ±50%
- Volume reduction ≤10%
- Can be painted with water-based paints after polymerisation — a test on a small area is recommended
