Liquid-applied membranes

Description

EshaDesmotop is a single-component elastomeric liquid-applied coating for horizontal surfaces, based on aliphatic elastomeric polyurethane. It cures on contact with moisture in the air and forms a cohesive, elastic membrane.

Its defining characteristic is its behaviour in sunlight: after 2,000 hours of artificial ageing in cycles of 4 hours of UV exposure at 60°C and 4 hours of humidity at 50°C (ASTM G 53), it shows no chalking and no colour change, whilst retaining its mechanical strength and elasticity.

It has a tensile strength of 4.64 N/mm², an elongation of 150 per cent, a Shore D hardness of 30, and adhesion to concrete of over 2 N/mm² even without a primer. The surface film forms in just 30 minutes.

The ARGYNET View:

DESMOTOP and HRD have identical mechanical properties — the same elongation, the same tensile strength, the same hardness. The choice is not based on numbers; it is based on what each product specifies:

DESMOTOP → explicitly indicates zero chalking and colour stability, adhesion >2 N/mm² without a primer, and light pedestrian traffic.

HRD → indicates resistance to vehicular traffic and heavy abrasion, with no reference to colour behaviour.

In practice: a white flat roof that must remain white in five years’ time → DESMOTOP. Car park → HRD.

And one point that is crucial for planning: if DESMOTOP is to be applied over ESHADESMOLAST, it must be applied within 72 hours. Beyond that, inter-layer adhesion is no longer guaranteed — and the contractor crew must be aware of this before finalising the schedule, not afterwards.
