Solutions & Applications · Residential Flooring — Bedrooms

The bedroom is the most personal room in the house — a haven of tranquillity. The flooring here is not judged solely on aesthetic grounds; it is judged by the feel of that first step in the morning, by how warm it feels on bare feet, and by whether it allows for a peaceful night’s sleep or transmits every step to the next room. The right choice isn’t simply ‘a nice floor’ — it’s a floor that works to ensure your rest.

The Four Requirements for a Bedroom Floor

RequirementWhat This Means in Everyday Life
Relaxing & tranquil designsWarm wood tones and subtle patterns that create a sense of tranquillity
Thermal propertiesFlooring that is not cold to the touch — contributes to insulation and a feeling of warmth
AcousticsReduction of impact noise to the rooms below — crucial in flats and multi-storey buildings
Comfort when barefootA surface that feels soft and warm under bare feet — the sensation that sets a relaxation room apart

Wood, Laminate or Acoustic LVT? The Characteristics of Each Option

MaterialCharacterIdeal when
Pre-polished timber (parquet)Authentic warmth & a natural feel — the most ‘premium’ bedroomYou are looking for natural materials and timeless value
LaminateRealistic wood-effect finish, scratch-resistant, cost-effectiveDo you want a wood-effect finish with greater durability and lower cost?
Acoustic vinyl (LVT/cork)Integrated sound insulation, warm and soft underfootDownward sound insulation is a priority (flat)
What Does the ‘dB’ Rating Mean for Acoustic Flooring?

An acoustic floor with a rating of 15–19 dB indicates the reduction in impact noise (footsteps, moving furniture) reaching the flat below. The higher the value, the quieter the space below. In a block of flats, this feature is not a luxury — it is often a regulatory requirement and a prerequisite for good neighbourly relations.

The Underfloor System

The acoustics and comfort of a bedroom are not determined solely by the visible floor — they are also determined by what lies beneath and around it:

  1. Sound-insulating underlay: a layer laid beneath parquet or laminate flooring that reduces impact noise and improves the feel underfoot. Essential on upper floors.
  2. Substrate levelling: a smooth, level base to ensure that the floor does not ‘move’ or develop creaking noises over time.
  3. Skirting: integrates the floor and wall, conceals the perimeter expansion joint — essential for floating installation of timber/laminate flooring.

Wall & Ceiling Sound Insulation: The Quiet Bedroom

Noise in a bedroom does not come solely from the floor. It comes from the adjoining room through the wall and from the floor above through the ceiling. For true peace and quiet, the solution extends to the room’s envelope:

  • Sound-insulating plasterboard partition with a mineral wool core: the most effective solution for a bedroom partition wall — mineral wool absorbs airborne sound within the partition.
  • Sound absorption for ceilings where there is noise from the floor above, or for controlling reverberation in large rooms.
ARGYNET Note

A quiet, cosy bedroom is a system, not a product: flooring with the correct thermal and acoustic properties, a sound-insulating underlay, skirting, and —where necessary— a sound-insulating partition with mineral wool. Each element tackles a different noise pathway.

At ARGYNET, we specify the entire room system and calculate materials per m².
