KNAUF ULTRA BOARD 15mm | Special fire-rated DFIR plasterboard

Structural boards for dry construction

Description

High-strength DFIR plasterboard: combines fire resistance, sound insulation and exceptional surface hardness in a 15 mm thickness — with the strength of fibreboard, but the ease of installation of standard plasterboard.

Knauf Ultra Board has a high-density core reinforced with glass fibres and a hard surface, for interior constructions requiring sound insulation, fire resistance, surface hardness and the ability to support heavy loads. Its mechanical strength is unique and greater than that of standard fibreboards, whilst retaining all the practical advantages of plasterboard in terms of installation and finishing.

What does ‘DFIR’ mean and why is it superior to fibreboard:

According to EN 520: D = high density, F = fire-reinforced core, I = increased surface hardness (impact resistance), R = increased mechanical strength. Please note that it does not carry an H rating — it is not moisture-resistant and is not intended for use in damp areas.

Compared to fibreboard, Ultra Board offers:

Cutting with a chisel (scoring & snapping), not a circular saw → no dust, faster work.

A paper-faced surface that can be finished in the same way as standard plasterboard.

AK edges for standard jointing.

Overview

Key Features

- High surface hardness & compressive strength — withstands impact and wear.

- Fire resistance — non-combustible material, core reinforced with glass fibres.

- Sound insulation — high mass/density (15 mm, ~15 kg/m²).

- Safe support of heavy loads.

- Cut with a chisel — no circular saw required, unlike fibreboards.

- Paper-faced surface & AK edges — finish similar to standard plasterboard.

- Ideal for prefabrication with OSB in timber structures.
