SNW Superior | Thermally Treated Filtration Geotextile

Geotextiles

Description

The filtration geotextile: pore size from 60 μm and minimum flow rate of 45 l/m²·s — filters fine-grained soils without becoming blocked. Non-woven, needle-punched and thermally treated geotextile made from 100 per cent polypropylene fibres, stabilised against ultraviolet radiation.

It is the thermal treatment that makes the difference: it stabilises the fibre structure and produces a more uniform pore size distribution, without compromising water permeability. The full range is O₉₀ 60 to 128 μm and a flow rate of 45 to 144 l/m²·s, with tensile strength of 6 to 30 kN/m and CBR static puncture resistance of 0.86 to 4.7 kN.

The ARGYNET View

The choice between SNW and NW is not a matter of ‘expensive or cheap’ — they are two different jobs. The SNW has finer pores and a higher minimum flow rate, so it filters fine-grained and silty soils without becoming blocked. The NW has higher mechanical strength for heavy loads.

The rule of thumb: in fine-grained soil, the critical selection criterion is the O₉₀ in relation to the particle size distribution, not the weight. A heavier geotextile with large pores will become clogged; a lighter one with the correct O₉₀ will never become clogged.
