Sound insulation

Description

SEE’s Whisper® panels are a sound-absorbing material made from high-performance polyethylene foam, with a honeycomb-type structure of interlinked closed cells. They remain acoustically ‘soft’, eliminating the hard, reflective surfaces that cause reverberation and echo. In the 40 and 50 mm thicknesses, they are classified as high-absorption materials — Class A according to EN ISO 11654.

The ARGYNET View:

Whisper® solves a specific problem: sound absorption in environments where fibrous materials are unsuitable — water, moisture, dust, chlorine, UV, aggressive chemicals. It is a non-polar, low-surface-energy plastic: water and dust do not adhere to it. In a ‘once-in-50-years’ storm simulation (water 3 l/min, wind up to 16 m/s), it retains 100 per cent of its acoustic performance after drainage, without a moisture barrier, protective membrane or perforated metal lining. It is completely fibre-free: it does not crumble, nor does it release irritating dust or corrosive gases — so installation does not require gloves, masks or protective barriers. Semi-rigid and self-supporting, it can be cut with a blade or saw and installed as a baffle, ceiling raft or wall cladding.

Overview

Key Features

- NRC 1.00 / Class A at 50 mm (AW 1.00 · SAA 0.98) — Class A also at 40 mm

- Sound reduction Rw 13.8 dB (50 mm) · Rw 16 (60 mm) · Rw 18 (100 mm) when used on its own

- Very high air flow resistance: 2,785,000 Pa·s/m³

- Resistant to water and moisture — 100% performance retention, no vapour barrier

- Fibre-free, formaldehyde-free, low VOC, zero ODP

- Particle emissions 0.02 mg/m² — just 1 per cent of the limit (Danish Society of Indoor Climate)

- Passes the Oddy test (museum-grade) — does not emit corrosive gases

- Washable, resistant to chlorine, peroxides, quaternary ammonium compounds and swimming pool water

- Does not support fungal growth; non-conductive; non-corrosive

- Very lightweight: < 1.5 kg/m² at 50 mm (≈1.25 kg/m²)

- Operating temperature: −40 °C to +80 °C

- Recyclable (LDPE)
