Sound insulation

Description

ISOLFON ReRub is an eco-friendly sound-insulating and vibration-damping roll made from recycled, vulcanised car tyres (end-of-life). It is produced by mixing granules of recycled rubber with a liquid polyurethane binder, and thermocompressing the mixture to the desired density. It combines high surface mass, excellent elasticity and viscoelastic behaviour — it acts as a ‘spring’ beneath floating floors, reducing impact (step) noise.

ARGYNET LAB framing: It is important to distinguish the index describing ReRub from the indices of the other ISOLFON products: ReRub is measured in ΔLw (dB) — an index of improvement in impact sound insulation, i.e. the noise produced by footsteps or impacts on the floor and transmitted to the space below. This differs both from the NRC (sound absorption within a room — PU/SEP/SE.PY/Whisper) and from the Rw (airborne sound transmission between rooms — Barrier). ReRub operates on the ‘mass-spring’ principle: its performance depends on a combination of the thickness of the roll itself AND the weight of the floating screed (cement screed) laid on top — greater thickness + greater screed weight = greater reduction in impact noise. At ARGYNET, we assist in calculating the correct thickness/weight combination for each project.
