PLANTEX® ROOTBARRIER | Root-resistant membrane

Root barriers

Description

Certified root resistance in accordance with CEN/TS 14416 — no perforation. Non-woven fabric made from 100 per cent continuous polypropylene filaments, thermally bonded, with an impermeable green coating. It is installed in the ground with the green side facing the roots.

Its mechanical performance is among the highest in its class: static puncture resistance 3,500 N, tensile strength 25 kN/m with 41% elongation, and tear resistance 800 N. Weight 325 g/m², thickness 0.8 mm under a load of 2 kN/m².

The ARGYNET View

CEN/TS 14416 certification is the difference between ‘root-resistant’ and ‘proven root-resistant’. Many materials are advertised as barriers without any test reports; here the result is unequivocal — no penetration.

In a public works project or a study requiring documentation, this is the only thing that counts.

And an important clarification: the membrane is impermeable. Plantex RootBarrier acts as a physical barrier, not as a permeable geotextile — it does not allow water or nutrients to pass through. That is why, when installing it vertically around a tree, sufficient root zone space must be allowed on the plant’s side; otherwise, you restrict growth rather than guiding it.
