ETICS system resistant to impact, abrasion and mechanical stress

It is not necessary to ‘clad’ the entire building with Impactum: only the impact zones — ground floor, entrances and corners. Impact resistance in excess of 100
The system at a glance
Solutions & Applications · External Thermal Insulation
In areas where the façade is subject to daily wear and tear — entrances, car parks, pavements, schools, playgrounds, sports facilities — a standard thermal insulation system cracks and wears out prematurely. The Ceresit Ceretherm Impactum system addresses this with impact resistance exceeding 100 joules, many times that of a conventional ETICS.
The challenge
ETICS is, by definition, a ‘soft’ system: an insulating board, a thin reinforced layer and a decorative render. In the first two metres in height — where people, vehicles and equipment move about — the conventional system is subject to impacts, scratches and localised pressure that lead to cracking, delamination and visible damage.
The problem is exacerbated with dark colours, where thermal expansion places additional strain on the top coat and traditional acrylic or silicate renders are limited in terms of colour choice.
The solution: Ceresit Ceretherm Impactum
Impactum is a certified external thermal insulation system (ETA), designed for maximum mechanical strength. The combination of CT 100 organic render, durable glass fibre mesh and CT 79 elastomeric render provides:
- Impact resistance >100 J — Category I as per ETAG 004 is exceeded many times over.
- Crack bridging up to 2 mm.
- High elasticity and resistance to thermal stress — operates over a wider temperature range than acrylic renders.
- Suitable for use with very dark colours (Intense range, HBW ≥ 5 per cent).
- Highly water-repellent and self-cleaning top coat, resistant to dirt, fungi and algae.
Where we recommend it
- Public buildings subject to heavy use — schools, hospitals, hotels.
- Ground-floor areas, entrances, car parks, kerbs and corners adjacent to pavements.
- Areas near playgrounds and sports facilities.
- Facades with a sophisticated, dark colour scheme.
- Areas with an increased risk of hailstorms.
The structure of the system
From the wall outwards, using products from the Ceresit Ceretherm Impactum system:
- Fixing adhesive — Ceresit Thermo Universal: fibre-reinforced, multi-substrate mortar (EPS / XPS / stone wool) with high adhesion, for fixing insulation boards.
- Thermal insulation board — TERMOPOR EPS-100: white EPS with a compressive strength of CS(10/Y) = 100 kPa, certified to ETAG 004.
- Reinforced base coat — Ceresit CT 100 Impactum with CT 327 glass fibre mesh reinforcement (330 g/m², alkali-resistant): an organic elastic render reinforced with carbon, glass and polyacrylamide fibres. For maximum strength, the system provides for a combination of CT 325 / CT 327 meshes.
- Top coat — Ceresit CT 79 Impactum: elastomeric decorative ‘pebble’ render 1.5 mm, Class I according to ETAG 004, self-cleaning, also suitable for dark colours.
It is not necessary to ‘clad’ the entire building with Impactum. The most sensible — and cost-effective — design applies the high-strength system only to impact zones (ground floor, entrances, car parks, corners) and conventional ETICS to the rest of the façade.
Thermo Universal simplifies the supply chain, as it works with EPS, XPS and stone wool using the same bag, whilst CT 79 allows for very dark colours where acrylic/silicate renders are limited. At ARGYNET, we calculate quantities per application zone and provide you with a comprehensive system proposal.
